The theme for the 2002 Sunshine Bay Garden Competition was 'show your garden a little love' and the people of Sunshine Bay gave their gardens love in spades full.

Established and new gardens alike blossom with grace and showcase bright flashes of annuals. The birds fly from shrub to tree attracted by the variety of natives throughout Sunshine Bay and the humming of bees fills the air as they to and fro in the blossoms.
This might sound a little romantic but the gardeners of Sunshine Bay are magic makers.

Now to the prizewinners you have all been waiting for...

1pooleplace.jpg Congratulations to Mr Brown of 1 Poole Place, this year's competition winners. His garden is filled with a mix of natives, roses, bulbs and annuals, it is not only a treat to the eye but it gives a lift to the spirit and the heart. It is such a magnificent achievement in such a short space of time.

2ndprize.jpgMr and Mrs Hawkins of 3 Thomas Mitchell Crescent came second in this year's competition with their beautiful garden displays of roses, lavender, annuals and succulents.

3rdprize.jpgThe three highly commended prizes went to Ms Jenny McGrath (22 Blaxland Crescent), Mr and Mrs Biggs (11 Wentworth Avenue) and to Mr and Mrs Atkinson (8 Thomas Mitchell Crescent).

Each of these gardens has great potential to achieve new heights in garden colour and design in Sunshine Bay.

The judges decided that a new category needed to be added because of the numbers of gardens that have shown great improvement. This award is called an encouragement award and those that achieve this are given a $50.00 Voucher from Batehaven Nursery.

One of these awards went to Mr Bernard Berry (24 Sunshine Bay Road) for the lovely arrangement of conifers and a manicured lawn, the other to Ms Sandra James (6 Banks Place) for her garden of roses, lavender and annuals. (Both pictured below)

We appreciate all the effort people put in to their gardens, as the area becomes more established and new homes are built it is clear that the gardens of Sunshine Bay create an atmosphere of beauty and tranquility. We also understand the difficulties produced by the drought and thank everyone for their environmental awareness regarding the water restrictions and also in their selection of plants that can survive these tough conditions.

The developers of Sunshine Bay are already looking forward to the wonderful delights and surprises in store for next year's competition.
