Congratulations to Mrs Rasmussen of 1 John Forrest Place, winner of the 2010 Garden Competition. Her garden features a series of flowering hedges with straight garden beds against the house and circular garden beds in the main lawn area. The different geometric lines of the planting combined with the colour theme of pinks, greens and burgundy is stunning
Elevated by a pink retaining wall is the most outstanding hedge of glorious china pink that winds around a path to the front door. In front of the retaining wall is a street planting of burgundy prunus that accentuates the burgundy and pink colour theme.
There is also a neatly shaped lavender hedge in full bloom near the garage and a row of hibiscus at the top of the retaining wall that will produce quite a show of flowers in the summer.
Set apart from the hedges is a circular bed with a lovely weeping standard of pale pink blossom surrounded by a mass of ranunculus, snap dragons and jonquils of all hot colours, sprinkled with white. Deep green pencil pines form a backdrop against the house surrounded by azaleas, pink flowering jasmine and purple cineraria.
Mr Allan Brown of 1 Poole Place won second prize. A former winner of the garden competition with the previous owner, under the guidance of Mr Brown this garden has taken on a new life with a more water wise focus. This is a corner block with garden beds that wrap around the house and a large kidney shaped bed on the corner. Flowering daisies in pinks, purples, yellows and white, red flowering grevillea with ground cover of yellow and red flowering nasturtiums provide great colour in one of the garden beds. The kidney shaped bed is planted with an amazing white flowering leptospermum, lavender and burgundy egonias. The other garden bed is a sea of red hippeastrum in full bloom. It is truly a wonderful display of native blooms that illustrates the full potential of a more water wise garden.
The outstanding garden of Mrs Lorraine Beacham (18 Wentworth Place) won the highly commended prize. The towering trees in a picture perfect hedge are covered in light pink blossoms and are offset wonderfully by the striking foliage of the surrounding nandinas. Flowering white diosma overflows one of the garden beds with a deep burgundy prunus as its main feature tree. Against the house is a background of red blooming camellias and three statuesque pencil pines, like a row of soldiers at attention. A very elegant garden filled with colours of white and red blooming plants with great contrasting foliage.
Mrs Betty Jurd of 7 Hartog Place won the highly commended water wise prize. The design of this garden with its three-tiered curved retaining walls of sand coloured stone provides strength and form. The dominant planting of red and variegated flax, towering burgundy and green dracina and cordylines is under planted with lavender and buxus for added contrast. There are also white and hot pink flowering azaleas adding really bright colour to the garden beside the side of the driveway with its whimsical paving featuring the great Elvis Presley. The great structure of this garden is complimented by the good use of foliage and colour. 
Encouragement Awards as follows:- Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Murdock of 20 Wentworth Place. The orange flowering cliveas are the centrepiece of this garden, surrounded by white and pink azaleas with a border of silver foliaged cotton wool. A kookaburra stands guard over the birdbath. It is a very cooling and relaxing garden, lovely for a hot summer day.
Mrs Innes (13 Poole Place) garden is filled with the most amazing cymbidiums in pink and yellow and the judges counted over 20 flower spikes on one of them! There is also strelitzia, yellow flowering gazanias, white roses and lavender that make it a well rounded garden of flowers with delicious scent and colour.
Congratulations to Mr Don Sipinkas and Mr Tony Milosos of 1/69 and 2/69 Hume Road. They were awarded the water wise garden encouragement prizes. Planted with hardy but spectacular red flowering grevillea, with white flowering ground cover of african daisies and seaside daisies contrasted with red and orange flowering nasturiums. There are also pencil pines, palm trees, agapanthus and the use of white pebbles as mulch is quite striking.
Mr and Mrs McKay of 11 Mawson Place have a great cottage garden filled with native plants. Mrs McKay said that they planted their garden around shrubs and burrawangs that were there before the house was built. The main garden bed is filled with red flowering grevillea, white flowering grasses, flowering gums, purple hebe, tibouchina, yellow and white boronias and a protea that is just about to flower. There is also a pebble stream that meanders through the main garden bed that adds to the peaceful ambience of this garden.
Mr Peter Phillips (1 Hartog Place) has a very water wise garden filled with native plants. This corner block garden is terraced with interesting rock walls. The beds are well mulched and planted with well cared for native shrubs of callistemon, prostrate grevillea, red flax and native lilies. Already a lovely garden, once the shrubs are well established it is going to be a very striking native garden.
Mr Tom Nagle (8 John Forrest Place) was very surprised with his encouragement award but his garden shows that he has a passion for this hobby. There is a wonderful lawn with garden beds leading up the driveway, and across the front of the house. A late flowering white azalea is very showy complimented by pink azalea, pink flowering kangaroo paw, an amazing white flowering leptospermum, grasses, a palm tree and a hedge of strelitzia.
Ms Lorraine Page (9 Stuart Place) has a wonderful garden with three garden beds, a great lawn and a weeping standard that is just about to burst into blossom. The front bed is filled with perennials of white and purple primulas, pansies, white petunias and white allysum. It is also planted with yellow and orange flowering gazanias, nandinas, gardenias and a maple tree. The other beds also have the white and purple primulas, roses and camellias. Really great colour usage of both annuals and perennials by Ms Page.
Mr and Mrs Finn of 96 Hume Road have a lovely established garden filled with shrubs and trees of contrasting foliage with great flowering colour. This is a terraced garden, well mulched and planted with flowering natives shrubs such as grevilleas as well as proteas, azaleas and camellias. The pots of planted colour on the porch are a great addition to this fantastic garden.
Mr Scott (7 Sunshine Bay Road) has a water wise garden with street trees of prunus. There is mass planting of lavender and african daisies as well as lovely red and pink flowering azaleas. The driveway of pebbles contrasts with the colours in the garden beds and lawn.
